Wiring for stepper motors

Postby DasGrinch » Mon Dec 24, 2012 7:20 pm

Finally getting back to this thing after a year of moving around at work and having to build new benches. I'm wiring steppers, what's the wire color order for them? I've got black/red/green/blue wires, and they came from Bart, I was kind of assuming it would be listed in the right order on the schematics but no such luck.

Here is the drawing for my motors. Every flavor i sell has the same color scheme.

If you every want to check a mystery motor, just start shorting wires to each other until you find the pairs that make the motor harder to turn.

You can also randomly apply about 12V to the wires until you find 2 pairs that cause the motor to jump.

You could also ohm out the wires to see which pairs are on the same coil.

Awesome, that's what I was looking for, thanks. I actually killed the battery in my multimeter, that's the first thing I was gonna try. I didn't know about shorting wires together, and I wasn't sure if applying voltage wrong would hurt things either, so that's good to know. Much appreciated, and merry christmas.
