Focus / Z Lift alternative

Came across this while browsing on eBay, and thought it might make a quick and dirty focus mechanism:

There are lots of these available in various sizes and quality. I was thinking it wouldn't be too hard to attach a large flat plate to the top of this thing, and then just crank the knob by hand. Obviously not suitable for a large machine, but I'm only looking at a working area of 16 x 20 inches, so this might be fine.

We use those all the time at work. We call them Jiffy-Jacks. That is a good price, I think we pay well over $100 each.

They are super handy for quick test setups. They do have a lot of drag on the knob when they have any weight on them. You need to lift the weight when you turn them.
