That thing is really over-built for in a laser. I like it.

Yes it is

The first DIY power Z table that I first wanted to launch was made of stainless steel with 4 threaded ball bearing pole. But there were a couple issues that change my mind and favored on the scissor style instead.
1) Weight: the stainless steel weight over 60lb for 600x400. Bigger size like the 1200x900 weight even more and hard to ship
2) Size is fixed. Once can put two of the scissor table for a bigger machine as it is 'open' frame design but the regular type won't fit
3) Possible clogging/locking up on the pole type due to misalignment setup on the bed
4) Price. Stainless design cost 30% more!
5) Direct drive on stainless but 3:1 reduction gear installed on the scissor type. So smaller motor is used
6) Frame color: I can dye different color on this model as it make of aluminum. It looks better (I guess)

Any comment is welcome

Is the scissor's lift linearly related to the number of turns from the motor?

(i.e. will 2 turns of the motor at the lowest point and 2 turns of the motor at the highest point change the scissor lift's height the same amount)

Good question. The answer is: non-linear.

Since it is using for Z table so I think this minor issue won't be significant.
To make it works linear-like, a formular on the control unit must be implemented. I will discuss this matter with my programmer when the new DSP controller card LO-X7 launched sometimes on next month:
