I would say barn, mole, or slug, but none of those are very catchy.
If you designed a custom control board you could call it the ORDuino.

If I catch your drift, a "Husky" ORD Bot would be slow and dull, not exactly desirable or descriptive characteristics.
CNC machines do make interesting, sometimes musical noises when they move. MIDI might be fitting.

How's "Harmonic"?

Maybe something more arsty fartsy, yet still scientific, like "Aurora"

Do you have a rough estimate of how much the kit is going to cost? I'm weighing whether or not I want to fab this guy, or wait for a Printrbot.

If you're willing to depart from the sciencey theme: "Legato" , perhaps.

Additionally, if you ever wanted to have custom electronics, A friend of mine and I design custom Arduinos. We'd be happy to help.

Since the increased print area will be one of the biggest advantages of a larger system.. I would suggest something from the impressive list here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Units_of_area

My favorites are: Dunam, Manzana, and Tetrad.

I'd never heard of any of these. I love wikipedia.

Do you know off the top of your head approximately how much the frame/mechanics (i.e. everything but electronics and extruder) of the Quantum ORD bot will cost? I'd love to build one, but if it's more than a few hundred dollars I'll have to wait until the fall when I start getting a (relatively) large PhD student stipend.

By the way, I just got accepted today to a PhD program at Northwestern, so I may end up in your neck of the woods Bart.

The Firkin ORD Bot

Postby bdring » Mon Feb 13, 2012 2:06 am

Ha....I like it, but it is unit of volume we are looking for which brings us to this..

The Firkin ORD Bot.

That makes it part of my favorite system of units. The FFF Furlong/Firkin/Fortnight system.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FFF_System

I am sure after hours of frustration the Firkin ORD Bot will be a well used name.

'Atom'

It's a step up from the Quantum particle size. Then maybe everything larger could be a 'Molecule'... and not on a square platform. ;)

It might be telling but I thought the name of the next one could be called 'dynamic'. Since most of the structure is defined but can be changed and quite easily to the builder's preference, the name just naturally came to mind. :D

Also, I kept hearing Quantum Mechanics and suddenly...Quantum Dynamics...
