Slic3r has a "infill every nth layer" function, but I'm not entirely sure what it does. If it is what you describe (the same as the skin feature in skeinforge) then that would be awesome. I'll look into that.

As I print with a .35 nozzle.. I want my layers as low as possible to keep details.. like 0.15 layer height..
What I do is have slic3r fill on every 2 layers.. then if fills with a 0.3 height layer for infill.. the normall full fill as bottom and top stay at 1 layer!!!

So it prints 2 layers first and then the infill.. Super quality outside and inside.. well nobody sees that part but is correctly filled and as hard as normal!

Neat! Of course, since I've solved the infill problem, I will just be thinning my layers that way...

I've put my RAMPS setup on the wiki as an example. If anyone can think of something I should add, please let me know.

Well, I don't think I will be able to meet my 500mm/s goal. I seem to have hit the ABS extrusion speed ceiling at about 400mm/s.
The other thing I found is that going that fast really doesn't work so well quality-wise. It really makes sense to so sparse fill as fast as possible, but perimeters need to be fairly slow or they start to peel and deform. Again, a lot of this is different with ABS and PLA.
Here's my latest Slic3r profile. It's not the fastest I've gone, but it does give good, consistent results. I like it. It also has support material enabled, which seems to work pretty well so far.

In my early prints, there was a slight wobble in the Z-axis. I adjusted the screws, and it pretty much went away. But as I started printing faster, I noticed that it came back, and the faster I printed the worse it was. My heated bed is supported by springs. Snugging them down a bit helped cut the wobble. I may try moving to stiffer springs and see if that helps eliminate it entirely.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you mount the heated bed using springs? I was considering buying some borosilicate glass to put on top of my MK1 and it suggests I use a spring relief system.

There are four holes in the cornder of the platform. You put a screw through the platform, run it through the spring, through the carriage, and into a nut. You can compress the springs for leveling. They also act as shock absorbers if the nozzle runs into the bed. I definitely recommend something stiff, certainly stiffer than ballpoint pen springs. I'm going to try some new ones, and when I decide which ones to order I'll share the part number.

Sounds great, thanks!

how about the springs people use with the Wades extruder?
