Ferny's 3D Printer Build

Postby Ferny » Mon Feb 27, 2012 12:32 am

Found Maker Slide on KickStarter and couldn't wait to get my hands on some. First project is going to be ~24"X24" plastruder.
Thanks to Bart for all the open source work you have done...WOW! After seeing the laser projects one of those is in my near future. Here's what I have so far. I took some of the drawings and modified them so I could use a .125" bit on my CNC router. They should still work for attaching motors to brackets.

Tapping bracket

Postby Ferny » Mon Feb 27, 2012 12:38 am

I didn't have any of the correct shoulder bolts to support my idler pulley so I am using a 5-1/16" diameter bolt.
I decided to tap the bracket and thread the bolt through. I was lucky to find pulleys and flanged ball bearings left over from an old machine build at work. I knew they'd come in handy for something someday!

Brackets deburred

Modified the holes so I could use a .125" cutter in my CNC router. Cut the brackets out of scrap .125" thick aluminum plate.

Stepper wires B4

Postby Ferny » Mon Feb 27, 2012 7:23 pm

Had some old size 17 steppers in stock. 0.9 degree 6 wire. We will probably use Sparkfun drivers since we have some on hand. Figured I might as well cut off the center tap wires from the steppers and heat shrink them up since they won't be used.

Belt Clamps

Postby Ferny » Fri Mar 02, 2012 3:06 am

Cut out some belt clamps today but unfortunately they won't work for me. My belts and pulleys are 3mm pitch XL so it's off to the drawing board for a design that will work. Can't seem to find any drawings online so I am drawing it in Solidworks. I'm finding it harder than it looks.
