Laser 2.x build

Postby focus6666 » Fri Feb 21, 2014 8:59 pm

Hi friends, I started to build this project - laser cnc few days ago.
I could not find Misumi extrusions in my country, but I used 20x20 aluminium profile.

Construction is not finished yet, I am waiting for makerslide profile parts.

I ordered Nema 17 dual shaft motors and other parts, and now I am looking for drivers for them.
I was thinking to buy this board :
http://www.ebay.com/itm/TB6560-CNC-3-Ax ... 0562881991

but I am little confused how to wire this board with interface and other parts.
Did anyone used this board in laser project yet??

Sorry for my bad english :)

You could use that board, you would need some way to interface with the parallel port on the board, either drive the laser directly from Mach3 or LinuxCNC or use a breakout board if you are using the DSP laser interface. I'm not sure how the spindle control that board has would work with the laser power supply, it looks like it has a relay for spindle. Maybe someone with better knowledge of electronics here will chime in.

Check out the build log for alan025 for an alternate to running through a parallel port. That CNC board should work fine if wired similarly:

Hi friends, during these 3-4 months I was building my laser cnc, and these days I am having trouble wiring stepper drivers with interface board.

I have two HY-DIV268N-5A drivers based on Toshiba TB6600 chip, for my X and Y axes
Image

I wired my two motors properly to A+,A- and B+,B-, on both drivers, but now I am having trouble how to connect other pins DIR+,DIR-, PUL+,PUL-,EN+,EN-.

On interface board there are four pins for every axes : Pulse, Dir, +5V, Enable.

Can you please help me with wiring these drivers and board.

Do you know whether the outputs of your board are active low or high? If they're active low, you'd wire PUL+ to 5 V and PUL- to the PULSE output of your control board. If they're active high, you'd wire PUL+ to the PULSE output of your control board and PUL- to GND. The same goes for DIR and EN. Given that they break out +5 V on the connector but not GND, I assume the outputs are active low.

Thanks for your help, motors are working now, but is it normal for these Nema 17 motors to get very hot, after few minutes they get very hot, I can not touch them, I limited the current on stepper driver to 0.6A, and now it's better but they are still hot??

Stepper motors are always powered 100% of the time to hold position. And they do get very warm. Look for a manufacturer's specification on their maximum temperature and stay below that.
