Postby andrewblanejr » Thu Oct 13, 2011 8:28 pm

i was hoping for the large dog-bone style packaging. Instead i got a box. But it seems to have survived. Here are some pics.

Nice to see it arrive intact. It usually seems like those "extremely fragile" stickers are interpreted as "drop kick this box to the porch".

Drop Kick

TLH,

it was transported by USPS, Express International Mail. Those boys have pensions and sweet benefits. They practically walk around all day singing dippidy-du-da. It's the others you have to worry about.

KabelSchlepp

Postby andrewblanejr » Thu Oct 13, 2011 10:42 pm

FYI, you must actally place your kabelschlepp order through a distributor. I recommend the one below. My cable carrier order came in slightly wrong. I ordered the OPEN links (0130) but one of strands i received was of the CLOSED links (0132). The distributor is going to have the correct part overnighted. Seems like it was just picked wrong at the kabelschlepp warehouse (these things actually ship direct). Anyways see info below.

I ordered:
(1) KABELSCHLE 0130.10-KR20X54 LINKS + FA/MI
(1) KABELSCHLE 0130.15-KR37X38 LINKS + FA/MA

my order has some extra links. the wiki says to order just 50 of the first and 34 of the second. since you can easily add/remove extra links i wanted extra just in case and since i don't what i am doing.

Frame HELP?

Postby andrewblanejr » Fri Oct 14, 2011 12:09 am

Hey guys, i'm stuck on the frame assembly. How much space should exist in between extrusion parts 3A and 5? I cant seem to find a measurement anywhere in the instructions or in the drawings, and it doesnt seem to have a crossing that would force it to a certain length. Any help is much appreciated.

The width should be the same as the piece that will mount directly above 5 on top of 8. The width can be registered using the plastic tube brackets.
"This is not my sig", it said. - I looked at it suspiciously; Who's sig was it, then?

is the width ever defined by an extrusion or just by the plastic tube bracket?

actually i'll try to answer my own question here. The width between 3a and 5 should be exactly 80mm. This looks like it is only defined by the laser tube bracket. Bart does a geat job of making these, they fit exactly into a space between two extrusions separated by 80mm.

Frame Building

Postby andrewblanejr » Sat Oct 15, 2011 4:04 am

I did some frame building yesterday. It was very slow going at first. Takes a little while to get the coordination down and make sure everything's square. I didnt find the carpenters square very useful...not at first at least...it was nearly impossible to hold it and the two peices your bolting and try to tighten things. Also it is important to note that Bart's latest (pre-release?) frame drawing with extra nut counting sheet is SUPER HANDY and easier to use than the current instructions table. It was posted on another thread. Also i found it insanely annoying having all the t-nuts sliding around (and in some cases falling out). So i made sure all extra t-nuts had m5-10mm screws attached to them and lightly tightened in the channel to prevent them from sliding around. By attaching the screws to the t-nuts ahead of time it made them easier to slide into place too, no having to use a screw driver or allen wrench (hex key) to fish them back and forth. Anyways attached are some pics of the pre-screw-attached t-nuts and my frame so far.
