What kits...?

I have always had issues with patents. I think most of them are worthless. :D

I meant like the kit on this website or any other DIY kits. Will someone come out of the wood works and claim this was their's?

There is always a possibility that someone can come out of the woodwork and claim a particular technology is covered by their patent. It wouldn't have much payout in this case, but it could stop future system sales [from whatever vendor they went after] It is highly unlikely that the patent would cover the entire machine, so a re-design could potentially be made to circumvent the patent, if necessary.

Yes, Patent Trolls are out there and cause many frivolous lawsuits:

The nice thing about the Bart's designs is that he's not attempting to solely manufacture and sell the complete system. He is selling components that can be used to manufacture whatever you want... if you use them to build a laser cutter that he designed, so be it. If you use them to build an automated doll house, so be it. Also, all of the parts he's designed are opensource which means he's released the design to the world to allow them to manufacture and sell those exact same components for profit without sending him royalties.

If you were selling fully complete machines, possibly. As far as kits of parts, I think that's fairly well exempt from such things. However, I am not a lawyer, and patent trolls are everywhere.

And if you were to set up selling of kits, I should hope you arrange for some of the proceeds to be shared with Bart.
