Have you thought of making any changes to the parts?
We have a 1.0 + a few mods and have considered redesigning some of the parts to eliminate having to do the edge drilling and tapping. Thought some tabs, captured square nuts with and maybe some bent acrylic could eliminate all of the drilling and tapping.
Bart added a captured square nut to the laser car's (Y axis) adjustment wheel in his second version of the parts where he changed the belt clamping. Same thing might work for the X axis cars and have wondered if Bart looked at it and decided that it wouldn't. Anyway adding slots to the cars and captured nuts to the attaching pieces would make things much easier to assemble.
Our mods consist of flipping the design to move the control panel to the right side, modified the lid to remove lip, moved the motors from the front to the back under the laser tube, added mechanical x axis stops and added Bart's Z axis stabilizers. When I think about it we probably made enough changes to justify a build log or at least a mod log.
We made some of the mods while developing our TI Luminary based cnc controller and a Java application for handling vector and raster files. We are in the process of moving from the Luminary processor to the Beaglebone and this time we're also designing and building a cape for the bone.
