64" 800 tooth MXL belt for Laser 2.x Z axis

Postby reeser » Fri Jan 16, 2015 9:44 pm

Hi All;
I have found a source for the elusive 64" belt. The problem is they require a minimum order of 10 belts.
Would anyone who needs one please send me a PM to see if there is enough interest to place and order.
The belts would be about 10 bucks including mailing.

Thanks,
Dick

McMaster Carr has a 77" belt. I used this one but my frame is larger than the stock frame. Don't forget that you can move the z lift brackets inward (to use a smaller belt) or outward (further apart to use a longer belt) if needed. I did this to make this belt fit for me. Additionally, you can use an additional idler wheel on a longer arm to take the slack up on a longer belt.

Hi Bob;

Thanks for the reply. I did order a 694 tooth belt (55.52") from SDP when I ordered my pulleys and other belts. I figured I could move the pulleys in far enough to accommodate that. I think that might be easier than trying to rig up an idler arrangement for a 77" belt. I thought there might be some interest in the 64" but if not I'll go with what I have.
I'm just starting to research the electronics options and would be interested in which direction you went. I guess the basic question at this point is whether to build the interface/laser
driver board or go with some commercially available solution.
If you want to use the laser for both cutting and engraving does that influence your decision on an electronics package? I'm pretty new to electronics for lasers so there is a lot I don't know.
Your input would be appreciated.

Dick

Yes, the choice of electronics does matter somewhat depending on your applications. I chose just a simple interface and 3 drivers to control my laser as I only intend to cut, not engrave. I will use CUT2d and MACH3 to control my laser.

If you intend to engrave too then you'd be looking for a DSP and a software package. Look in the 'Commercial DSP' forum for info. There's a few users that are installing the AW?? DSP. Can't recall the number but I think it's AW608?
