Small Carbide Bits

Postby bdring » Sun Mar 03, 2013 7:07 pm

I buy a lot of...

0.0625 dia. 1/8" shank, 0.50" DOC bits. I buy them here.

http://www.precisebits.com/products/car ... 125f2f.asp

Does anyone know of a better price? I go through about 10 a month.

I've bought some bits from http://www.ebay.ca/sch/drillman1/m.html

they seem to be decent quality

looks like your 0.50" DOC will be the issue though.

I will second the endorsement of drillman1.
And he's very popular on the shapeoko forum.

He has some 1.5mm bits with a .375" flute length for a dollar a piece.
But they are "router burrs". I have no idea what that means.

Burrs cut by way of little raised triangles, much like a rasp or a file, rather than shaving by the continuous, smooth flutes of an endmill. I have no idea how that translates into differences in the finish of the cut, though.

And I third (edit: fourth now, it seems) the endorsement of Drillman1.

Does anyone have one of those 0.25 LOC bits. If so, where does the flair to the shank start? If it is 0.28 or more, I can use them.

I thought I did, and went to measure them, but they're actually 2mm, not 1/16". Sorry.

I've got one. It is hard to say exactly where the flare starts.
But, at .28 I am reading a diameter of .065.
Which is larger than the .061 I am reading at the tip.
So, it would seem to be more or less .004 flared. (according to my cheap calipers from vxb)
