Black Anodized Aluminum Sample

Postby fullspeceng » Tue Oct 26, 2010 7:54 am

Here's my first attempt at black anodized aluminum using my mini 40w and RetinaEngrave USB.

Anodized Aluminum is awesome. It's super cheap (5cents), engraves well and is easily cut to size with scissors or a paper cutter.

you must be talking about the anodized aluminum foil. They sell this on a roll at Thorlabs for light blocking material. Yes, anodized aluminum is really neat to work with. I've noticed that the engraving does not go down to the bare metal. It stops at the white layer of the anodization that has not accepted the black dye. This is a good thing because you are never exposing raw aluminum which would corrode.

Hello Henry and Lasersafe.

Results are awesome !!.
An electronic beginner question : Is it possible to install Full spectrum engeneering electronic parts as a complete kit ( Mach3 Upgrade Card + 400MHz USB RetinaEngrave Processor + easy to use Custom Full Spectrum Laser Direct Print Software) on Bart laser project ????? How ?? or maybe it isn't the purpose of this forum?? Already have all the complete Bart mechanic kits.
Thanks.

Pierre.

Yes,

All you do is plug it into your stepper motor driver. It simulates a parallel port output, so it is quite easy. You just need to make sure the pinout is correct. I had to make an adapter cable, but that only took about 10 minutes. What stepper driver are you using?

Surprised by your quick answer !. Well received all the kits, thanks.
I'm going to follow exactly what you did : Gecko 540+mach3.

I'll do a schematic of the Full Spectrum Eng card and a Gecko G540. It should be posted within a day.

I am not trying to upstage Henry because this is far from being perfect.
This was my first attempt, It was done on an old scrap piece of anodized just to see if it works and yes it is very easy to do.
