Tonight I was able to get to a calendar I have been wanting to do for a while. I guy over on the Full Spectrum Forum was gracious enough to share his Corel Draw file and calendar creator program that he programed himself. His calendar was originally 11 inches in diameter but all I had was some 6 5/8" (168mm) plywood circles from Michaels. All I had to do was scale it down to fit. After I put a finish on it, I plan on displaying it in a plate display holder.

Engraved at: 500 DPI, 100% Speed, 30% Power

Here is a Christmas present I made for my daughter to give to her mother and father in law. It is a 16" x 12" x 3/4" pine oval and little 1/8" oval shapes.
The little oval shape are held on by a small spot of hot glue so they can be popped off and moved as the families grow.

Any chance of getting the Corel file for the calendar?

Hi Bill, Milt,

Kerry here, cnc and laser user. I am the one who wrote the calendar program. I initially wrote the program back in 1990 when I was learning c language. At the time, computers were text based and that is why it still test based. What the program is doing is basically typing in the calendar one character/line at a time. Imagine how long it would take you to type it in on a word processor. Since than I wrote it in other languages too, JAVA and Visual Basic in 1999/2000, I was learning those languages and thought I'd carry it on over to those languages. http://javaboutique.internet.com/KNCalendar/ << my JAVA version. About a year and a half ago I got a laser from Full Spectrum and thought it would be cool to laser a calendar on a wood plate. So, I rewrote it again so that it would make a cool thing to do on the laser. If anyone wants the executable, here it is.

I tried my hand at a edge lit acrylic sign tonight. It turned out ok. I used the lowest DPI so you can see the striations in the letters. I also think I may have used the wrong type of acrylic, this was just a piece I had laying around. I read somewhere that the two types of acrylic are extruded and cast. I'm not sure which one is used for this type of a project, but will look it up after I post this.

EDIT: The best type of acrylic for engraving is cast acrylic. Focus on the top of the acrylic piece then focus into the acrylic by .020 inches. This will increase the diameter of the laser spot size slightly and create smoother engraving.

the edges show up the best if you sand them lightly, it gives a nice even glow

Here is a Bamboo iPhone case I lased for a friend of my daughters. Bamboo is really easy to laser and has a good contrast.
