1000 won't fit without modifications. The outside frame is right at 1m. 850 should fit okay, you just may need to work out a support for the longer length.

"850 should fit" ... ok, but has anyone out there actually built the 2.x laser using the 850mm tube listed in this BOM? If so, could you please comment on the space & tube fit?

There is more than 850mm of width in that area. You need the tube to clear the right side wall so you will probably slide it more to the left. When you do that, the wide part of the tube may hit the Z lift motor pulley. You might be able to move the z lift assembly to the left the same amount. My guess is with some minor tweaking you could get it to fit.

I am guessing because I do not have a good 3D model of the tube or even a decent drawing.

Bart -

DO you know if there's a buildlog on here of someone using a 80/100 watt tube that's going to be longer than 1m with your 2.0 kit? I looked but I didn't see anything obvious....

I know some people who have dog house'd the side to make room for a larger tube, but I don't recall a buildlog on it. At 100 watts, the optics need to be reviewed and you might start looking into beam expanders, etc.

I am one of those people.

I bought a 1m long 40W tube by mistake.

It hangs out the right side of the box (I did make a 'doghouse' for it); looks ugly but works fine.

SpacedCowboy, I hope this is okay with you.

Totally fine - I've been MIA for a while (actually quite a while, almost a year now) because my son was born (first baby) and life just doesn't seem to have any time left in it for projects any more. Maybe this weekend I'll trawl through this and try and make sure it's all up to date again...

Cheers
Simon.

At risk of hijacking the thread, which is not my intention, why would you want to use an 850 instead of a 700? I'm just now getting started (first post!) and doing what reading I can, and hadn't seen this (yet) mentioned before. Is there a spec advantage / performance / etc that would make you want to use an 850, or is it just a matter of convenience in already having one on hand?

Not hijacking at all. I was just curious, because the BOM mentioned in this thread (http://0x0000ff.com/laser/) lists the 850mm LightObject tube (#LSR-JLD40WCO2) rather than the 700mm tube (#LSR-JLD35WCO2).

So, I guess I'd ask a question in response, to SpacedCowboy: why the 850mm tube instead of a 700mm tube?

Let me engage in a little hijacking... Per Bart's comment in the "A little confused on what V-Wheels to order", this BOM has the incorrect number of v-wheels and idlers. (Is this BOM being maintained, or should we consider it deprecated and rely solely on Bart's?)
