Where do all the flat washers go?

Postby LeonS » Thu Mar 24, 2011 5:03 pm

I have the frame nearly completed and have only used 7 of the 5mm flat washers. Did I miss something? Should there be washers on all the bolts used on the angle brackets?

Cheers,

Leon,

The BOM shows that 107 #10 flat washers (FLW10SS) are used. If I'm reading the BOM correctly 86 of the 107 are under D30025 (top level 2.x Laser). I can't find a drawing that shows where these washers go. Possible oversight? It's generally a good practice (IMHO) to use a washer along with a nut/bolt. My guess it that most of them would be used on the frame assembly (D30027) and for attaching the skins to the frame assembly. I'd definitely like to hear the official word on this.

I know...could someone please not provide the tourqe values for M5 screws. :o

Thanks Brian.

I guess I am just not reading the provided specs closely enough. It's silly but a few of the construction details really stumped me for a while. Like where to put the brackets for the Y axis support members and the last beam between them. The drawings didn't provide any definitive answer and I had to inspect all the photos really closely to put it together. It is kind of fun, like a treasure hunt.

Thanks again,
Leon

Leon,

I absolutely agree. I also love pictures. Lots of pictures!

Did we figure out where the washers go? If they go on every bolt that is bolting the frame together I will add them before I go any further. :D

I checked the pictures and the prototype doesn't seem to have them on the brackets.

Tim, what are you doing on your build?

Metal brackets ... no washers. Plastic parts get washers. The depth of the slots is not very forgiving. Sometimes one screw is too short to catch the nut, then the next size bottoms in the slot. The washers are required on most plastic parts to prevent bottoming.

Mostly, I am doing as Bart said, most plastic (except when I forget) and otherwise as needed foe spacing.

That is good news! I wasn't looking forward to putting them on all the frame bolts, but would of if they were required. Thanks for clearing that up guys..
