Are you sure pin 15 acts differently under vector control?

I can adjust power in both vector and raster mode with the laser attached to pin 17. I was unaware that pin 15 even had a purpose.

It currently pulses the enable pin 17 for power control in vector mode, but according to Henry, 15, has capability of PWM. There are some other undocumented pin features. I will let you ask him about those.

I really hate undocumented features a lot. In this case it seems to be yet another case of "were not going to tell you how it really works"! I've been a big fan of FSE and I reely like my 40W laser. However, I not sure that I'm going to be using the RetinaEngrave on my 2.x laser. Their solution for the DIY guy seems to be just by all of our stuff! Or not! I'm starting to go with the latter.

I am right there with you Brian. I was set on buying their RetinaEngrave, and still might, but am leaning towards Lightobject's controller now. I do not like the tone in their posts when responding to some of the members questions here on the forum. Maybe I am just taking it wrong. Just my 2 cents..

To be fair they state that they cannot support diy users but they have been very quick to help when I've asked any questions. They also made a custom firmware version for me that lengthens all the pulses to 5us to make the board keling 4020 compatible.

That being said, I am having an awful time trying to make it work. I seem to be losing steps with the retinaengrave (mach 3 is fine) so I'm switching to pololu drivers to see if that works. I suspect the issue is direction changes are coming too close to step pulses but I have no way to confirm.

Pololu Board

Postby bdring » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:26 pm

I ordered a small prototype order of the Pololu carrier PCBs. I also got the rest of the parts I am going to need to build it. Here is a paper placement of the parts. The fan is a small 5V fan. There are holes in the PCB for standoffs. It can use any 50mm 5V or 24V fan. Please don't ask for any of these PCB. I want to test without any pressure of orders. I expect to have the boards in about 8-10 days. I will publish documentation after testing.
