Just saw this pick-n-place machine on the MakerBot site. Looks like MakerSlide in the wild.

my pick-n-place hands were getting sore the other day and having trouble grabbing parts with my pick-n-place tweezers. I finally went to ebay and bought a powered vacuum pick-up tool. The kind that uses a quiet aquarium air pump. Hope it helps. That's my first step toward PNP automation.

The OpenPnP project is being run by a friend of mine. He is a guru with this type of stuff and I know he is starting to pick up steam on the work. I can pretty much assure you that it will be a rock-solid solution when he is done. His projects always turn out great because he is so tenacious about it. If you play with the software he has created, you will see what I mean. It's pretty solid and he still considers it early-alpha.
