LO DSP hookup to Gecko G251

Postby Greolt » Sun Jan 08, 2012 10:23 am

In the documentation I have been able to find, every driver connection diagram uses step, direction and 5v.

Gecko G251s which I have on hand have step, direction and common (Connect this to your logic (controller) ground)

Is the LO controller able to have this type of driver connection?

Thanks,

Greolt

I had the same problem using the G540s at work with out Kuper motion control systems. They use 5v current sinking outputs. To use the drives with a DSP you will have to build what I have called an drive inverter. It consisted of two ILQ615 quad optoisolators to drive the inputs of the 540. Same thing with the 251, I think the 540 s just four 251s in a package.

I can post a picture of the schematic if you want. The files are in circuitmaker 2000 or EasyPC. I don't use eagle.

Thanks Macona

I do use Eagle. :)

A picture of the circuit will do.

Still hoping for some response from support. I have posted the same question on the LO forum.

It seems odd that LO support can not tell me whether or not the DSP can provide step and direction signals in reference to its own ground pin.

Does not give me much confidence as to the level of technical support available should I decide to purchase. :(

It's simply that they do not know and probably have to go back to the company that makes it. LO just resells.

In general you almost always find current sinking for a situation like these, not the current sourcing that the g251 and g540 uses.

Here is my drawing, I think you want about 1.2k for 24v. I use a sip resistor when I build it. Like this: http://www.mouser.com/search/ProductDet ... 66-1.2K-RC

Thanks very much for that Macona.

I have heard from another user on he LO forum that the DSP will in fact source the current.

In other words the signal does get out put, in reference to the ground pin.

This other user is happily operating his in this way.

Thanks for the diagram.
