Thanks for you order.
1. Yes Ive done it without damage to my drivers.
2. I havent tried it but I would turn off everything before connecting/disconnecting the motors. Its my rule of thumb to power down when disconnecting/connecting anything power related to the board, specially anything concerning the stepper drivers.

Select the Sanguinololu 1.2 and above for "Board Type" and the "Arduino Hardware" is Atmega644P.The rest will depend on your printer. You may also need to change the Fan Pin on the Pin.h tab from -1 to 4(if you like to use it).

Im just about finished with the first draft of the user guide which should explain all those small details. Will post it on the product page.

Maybe this has already been asked, but the board takes 12-30V according to the specs. So what voltage is recommended?

12 to 15v is recommended since most heat beds and hot ends are designed around 12v(fans too). The extended range of the power supply is some sort of "not that you would but you could" kinda thing, may be useful to some.

Delivered today, can't wait to get it home and get the connections soldered up.

I was quite surprised at all of the "goodies" in the package, basically not only all the pins (straight and right angle) for the board, but the mating connectors. I think I have everything to wire my bot except the wire.

Roy: Congrats and thank you for a great price for an an incredible package, and for delivering as promised, when promised.

I think you said firmware was loaded? Which one?

I have Marlin RC2 in there @ 250000. Replace as needed. I just had to test them at the higher baud rate.

Ping me if you have questions. Need some more hours to finish the user guide.

I Highly recommend soldering the 16v TVS Spike suppression diodes if you have a 12v power supply. Helps in the stability of the board specially on long runs. The pads are under the PCB, polarity is not important as those are bi-directional.

Let me know how it goes.

I got mine yesterday. It looks great. It will be a few days before I can try it out. I have a couple questions.

  • Do you have a 3D Model of it? It does not need much detail. If not, do you have simple 2D dimensions of the outline and mounting hole locations.
  • How much extra capacity does the 5V P/S have. I have a 5V, 160mA fan I would like to use to cool the stepper drivers. I could tap it off a limit switch connector. I would reserve the 12V PWM fan circuit for it's intended use.

1. I have the 3D file attached.

2. The PS is rated for 500ma, so your fan should be good. One thing to watch our for is when the board acts funky when the fan starts as some fans are notoriously large current starters and might trigger the over current protection of the chip. Otherwise it should be fine, the 5v supply is only seeing around 30ma load normally. You could also use the USB 5v which is PTC protected @ 500ma, it is available on the right most pin of the 3pin input selector.

I'm getting ready to order some hookup wire for a Hadron, although I may visit Radio Shack.

Since you designed the controller you must have a rough guess on wire gauge for the following:

1) Stepper Motor(s) (rated 1.6A, but I would probably double that for the wires)
2) Heated Bed (Controller Board Input & to the HB)
3) Extruder Hot End (Controller Board Input & to the HE)
4) Sensor (end stops,thermisters, thermocouples etc)


I don't think there's a master wiring diagram for the Quantum or Hadron
showing wire gauge(s) and approximate length(s) ... or did i miss it?

I went with 4 conductor 18 gauge, but I wanted to be able to upgrade the motors in the future if needed (I got enough for my Hadron and my Shapeoko)
