MK2 heated bed

Postby jafenske » Sat Apr 14, 2012 12:42 am

I am currently collecting pieces to assemble my ORD Bot. My MK2 heated bed came in yesterday from Ultimachine. I don't have any expericence with SMT pieces. I'm not sure how to orientate and solder the LEDs. Could someone please post a picture showing how to orientate the SMT LEDs to the MK2.

Thanks,

Joe

Just an FYI, you may have issues with powering a MK2 with 12v. It was not designed very well and the resistance is too high. It was not developed by Josef Prusa(designer of the MK1) nor was he consulted in the changes that were made.

You would want to test this first, but I think I remember reading that the LED orientation doesn't matter if you just solder one in one direction and the other in the opposite.

Zat German is exactly right about the Mk2 not really being related to the Mk1, and about the component orientation. With that said, you will probably be just fine if you are using a powerful enough power supply and not a laptop supply. You can read about the Mk1 and Mk2 both at this link - http://reprap.org/wiki/PCB_Heatbed the placement and orientation for the components are the same for both.

Ultimachine has these for $50, in stock, and on eBay you can get them for $15 from Denmark, but the delivery time is a month!!

Does anyone else carry these heater beds???

Thanks.. Not quite as cheap, but it is closer to home (USA) and will get here sooner... Hmmmm.. then again, I don't really need this anytime soon.. may not really even use it once I have it, so no rush.. may just ponder this a bit longer... Thanks for the tip though!!
