Hadron kit questions

Postby madbox » Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:29 pm

Hello, Bart and everyone.

I am new to 3D printing and dumb in the 3D printing area include mechanics, and electronics, but i bought the ORD bot Hadron kit with QU-BD dual extruder anyway. ( Yes, I read the warning somewhere, so I am dumb :) )
I have been reading a lot of stuff about the 3D printer and ORD bot Hadron last couple weeks, and I came up with some questions about ORD bot Hadron kit.

Let me start with a couple of questions. Please, enlighten me and others :)

I understand that ORD bot hadron kit with QU-BD dual extruder does not come with limit switch.

1) How many endstop or limit switches should I buy?
I think I should buy 6, but it seems some people don't have them, some people have 3, and some people have 6. I am confused since i am dumb, hehe. :)

For the nozzle, I will be getting QU-BD Dual Extruder.

2) Do I need PTFE sheet to wrap the heating block? If I need them, do i need to put some thing between PTFE sheet and heating block? Also, do I need to buy Kapton tape as well or some of the tape came with the kit?
I saw a video QU-BD Extruder without PTFE sheet, but most people seems to have PTFE sheet around heating block.

3) What other items are missing from the kit? What else should I buy other than PLA filament, Blue tape and endstop?

Maybe more questions coming up when i get the kit:)
Many thanks in advance.

Limit switches

Postby bdring » Thu Oct 25, 2012 11:39 pm

You really only need 3 limit switches at most. These are usually placed at the zero positions. The software knows the size of the work area. So, once you zero on the lower end, it will not move past the upper end. Limit switchess are pretty cheap. If you are going to take the trouble to order them, why not get a few extra.

My QU-BD extruder came with some insulation for the heater block.

Depends on what "Kit" you purchased?

Who did you purchase kit from?
Have you seen a BOM Build of Materials List of things you will get in kit?

Thank you so much Bart and cozmicray for fast reply.
I should write where I am getting the kit from.
This shows my dumbness, hehe :)

I am getting the kit from ATI.

http://www.automationtechnologiesinc.co ... inter-kits

Since Bart is getting little commission from them, I thought it will be little help for him :)

I saw Materials List for the ORD Hadron, but I am not sure when the RAMPS 1.4 Pre-Assembled Kit Complete and QU-BD Dual Extruder kit mixed together. I just want to make sure I am not missing anything else :)
Please, let me know if I am missing any parts.

Base on your advice I will order few extra limit switches with PLA filament and Blue tape. I don't think I will be printing ABS any time soon. I want to try IMPLA, but I need to build a printer first.

Many thanks again.

See the thread
Hadron Build (ATI kit) quick heads up
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1537

I built from the ATI mechanical kit
ATI BOM and top level drawings should help alot with mechanicals

ATI build a bit different from ordbot wiki
http://www.buildlog.net/wiki/doku.php?i ... he_ord_bot

Use the shortest screw that will work for fastening
everything is metric and additional metric T-nuts are rare.
Pay attention to eccentric orientation and wheel bearing and idler orientation.

I would space timing belt clamp away from plates to keep it from rubbing on plate too much.

I mounted endstops on frame and bump stops of moving pieces wires move less?

Thanks for the info. cozmicray :)
I read through and got a lot of information.

I got the ATI ord hadron kit today :)
It was well packed with printed Materials List.
All the parts in the Materials List for the ORD Bot Hadron Platform kit are there.

I haven't got electronics and QU-BD Dual Extruder, yet.
Maybe, they are waiting for the parts.

It would be nice to inform buyers about the other parts shipment.
I knew that they ship electronics separately after reading this forum.
I just does not know when it will be shipped :)

Here are couple of pictures.

Box seems little smaller than I thought :)
