Help! Calibrating the Z!

Postby Alup » Thu Mar 13, 2014 9:42 am

So here is the issue.

I do not remember the pitch on my acme rods that are on my printer.

Currently Marlin is set to 1533.5952

when I print a 50mm cube it comes back as being 50.42mm What do I need to put into Marlin to fix this?

1533.5952 / 50.42 = 30.41634...

30.41634 x 50 = 1520.81733

I would probably round down a couple of precision points and just use 1520.8 or even 1521.

You can use the same formula for any axis:

((Current number of steps / actual output length) * desired output length) = refined number of steps to insert in to Marlin, Repetier, etc.

Or (identical, but maybe easier to remember):

(DESIRED LENGTH / ACTUAL LENGTH) * CURRENT STEPS/MM

50 / 50.42 = 0.99167
0.99167 * 1533.5952 = 1520.82

Word of advice: don't measure the calibration cube, especially for Z.
Measure the actual Z axis movements.
