Ripples - replace Z screws?

Postby butterfingers » Thu Apr 10, 2014 4:02 am

Although generally quite happy with the print quality that I'm getting, I do get annoying ripple type artifacts in vertical surfaces.

Is this a function of the Z axis screws? Better to replace with Acme ones from TechPaladin or something?

Example below (apologies for the filthy camera sensor):

Thanks!

If it's solely due to threaded rods, then they aren't wobbly, but damaged, as the ripples aren't very regular.

Try tightening your X and Y belts first.
Maybe slightly increase the current to the steppers too.

It looks like a superposition of backlash and wobble to me, the previous suggestion should eliminate the former and make the wobble clearer.

Some but not all the irregularity looks like Z wobble. Instead of replacing the screw, why not try the Z wobble mod? And what Orcinus said.
