Picking a computer

Postby dirktheeng » Mon Apr 25, 2011 10:07 pm

All,

I am going to start buying up components and I want to start to spec a computer. I want to run Mach 3, and I know it can be kind of finiky. I was wondering if people had reccomendations as to what to get and from who. I was thinking about buying a cheap dell and adding a parallel port card running xp pro on it.

let me know your thoughts and/or experiences.

Pretty much anything will do, the stated system requirements are 1ghz and 1gig ram.

I'd personally try to get a freebee or paying twenty bucks for something second hand. Old computers are basically worthless.

The older it is the more likely it will already have a parallel port.

You want a computer with a slot or two that you can install a second parallel port in case the one on board does not work well or fries. I like a little horsepower because I often work on the next job in CAD and CAM while the job is running. You don't want some background interfering with Mach3. Mach3 has a utility to see how well the pulse engine can do. Run that while hammering on other applications.
