I'm sure he was referring to the fact that all three drivers were the same. Specifically, that the Z driver was of the same type as the X and Y drivers.

Oooofff! Don't I feel like the village idiot! I got distracted while reading the thread and lost my thread!

It probably isn't bad to point out that all drivers are not quite the same, though. We looked at drivers made by AMP, Oriental, Danaher (2 flavors), OMS, and a couple of others as I recall. Now so many new folks are making drives that perhaps the testing should be redone.

I have heard good things about the DSP based drivers like Automation Technology is selling. The motor noise is supposed to be a lot quieter and smoother. I heard someone claim that they could run a little faster before they got whip in their lead screw with that drive.

I have a big NEMA 34 powered by a Gecko on my big router X axis. That motor is louder than my spindle.

You are absolutely correct Bart. I was having some slippage during rapids on the X of my mill. I bought a new 32bit DSP driver (automation technologies KL-8056D) and the results are amazing. The motor has no noise at all and you would swear it is a servo instead of a stepper. No vibrational resonances ever. I was so impressed that I ordered two more and I replaced my Y and Z too. I will now sell my older drivers on Ebay. They are OMS drivers capable of 14A series/ 7A parallel. They were several hundred dollars a piece back in the day, but I'm not expecting the auction to go very high.
