KA3DWY just to chime in too, never got much past 5 WPM needed for the test ... 32 years ago !!! Dam I'm old..

Well, that's easy to fix, at least in the US. I went from -0- to Extra class in about 90 days. Studied, took online practice tests and passed Technician and General on the first try, same night, missed extra by 4 questions.
Went home, studied some more, paid for hamtestonline.com and passed the extra exam a month later.
There is NO code requirement at any level anymore, so there is really no barrier like there used to be. There are free online practice tests that you can use, over and over, which works well for Tech and General. I found that there was just too much material on the Extra exam and I needed a more formalized course of study, and "intelligent" practice tests that kept exercising my weak points until I got better.
If you're hanging out in here, you're certainly capable......

Not in the US, but shouldn't be too hard to fix here (Croatia) either.
A few friends tried to talk me into taking the exam a few times during my undergrad years, but i was too lazy to do it.
Now, years later, I've been planning on taking it for a while, but somehow keep not finding the time or it keeps slipping my mind.
I took the online practice tests without doing much studying and the tech part is easy. It's the general part that keeps tripping me up (i keep messing up the prefixes
).
No code requirement here either anymore, so at least there's that.
Think i'll probably do it this vacation/summer. And probably upgrade my HPSDR rig with an exciter and PA too.
