Host Software - 2nd Generation

Postby flurin » Fri Jul 13, 2012 11:28 am

Searching for 3D-Printer tools I discovered by chance Repetier-Host.
I've installed the MAC-Version Repetier-Host Mac

https://github.com/repetier/Repetier-Host-Mac.

There is a huge improve compared with Pronteface.
I think only a few people are using Repetier yet and the Sofware has some bugs, but the future can be great.

flurin, thanks for posting this.

I just installed Repetier-Host for Linux and it looks great. Just the ability to freely position the part on the bed makes worth giving it a try, not to mention the better temperature graphs and slicer configuration menus.

I'll try installing the Repetier-Firmware too and see how it goes.

Glad you like it too!
The support seems to be fast. I raised an issue today (lcis, flurin is already used) and the bug was immediately fixed.

The firmware is also on my todo-list.

Repetier has an excellent description of the basic concepts involved in extruding plastic in a 3d printer:
Hardware settings and print quality
As I read it, I see clear explanations for most of my high speed calibration problems.

Suitable to Start With??

Postby tango282 » Mon Jul 16, 2012 10:59 pm

Would either of you recommend Repetier Host to start with? Or should I gain some experience first? Currently my setup is as follows: One fully assembled Hadron minus the electronics (finally gave up waiting for...... anyway my AZ will be here to tomorrow!!!!) I have yet to learn the first thing about printing so I am imminently flexible at this point........Just curious.

@tango282

You can start with Pronterface, this is what almost all people do. But I would start with Repetier-Host ( I use Repetier-Host-Mac).
I downloaded the source too and I'm running Repetier-Host in debug mode. So far I only discovered a bug, which Repetier fixed in a short time.

Edit:

You need also a slicer-software. Repetier-Host's default is the internal installed slic3r, which is quite easy and fast.
That means, you can open a stl-file and generate the G-Code inside Repetier-Host.

Selecting Printer->Printer Settings->Connection->Port: "Virtual printer" let you start learning Repetier-Host without a 3D-Printer -> it’s great isn’t it?

Not yet, I am still studying the Configuration.h file. It's different from Sprinter/Marlin and has a lot of other information in. It's quite interesting so far, we'll see if it works the same.

@dzach

I did install the Repetier-Firmware. However I've a problem with the Hotend (it doesn't heat!), the rest seems to be ok.

Edit:

Repetier has fixed the bug -> Uptade to Version 0.71.

I'm now going to test the firmware.

@flurin or Dzach,

Do you have any updated status of how Repetier is working for you? Would you recommend it or did you go back to using something else?

Thanks
