Building the OrdBot

Postby jtansoon » Sat Mar 23, 2013 3:56 am

Hi,
I'm looking to build myself a OrdBot printer from scratch. Anyone wishing to do the same and willing to share the cost of the parts. What I have found out so far are

1. Laser Cut parts for the OrdBot in 3mm 6061 T6 Almum (all parts)
2. V Wheel Assy (14 per set)
3 Idler Pully Assy (2 per set)
4. 2040 extrusion @ 370mm x 1
5. Makerslide 330 mm x 3 + 420 mm x 1

The estimated cost to get these parts is about US$200 each for 10 sets.

I have not found out the price to anodised the alum parts or to polish them shine. Or other parts like leadscrew, coupler, etc

Let me know if anyone is interested to share this...need 9 other person to make it work

thanks for reading.

So its $200 for everything highlighted below, correct? (including the extruder carriage? Since its not a flat plate wondering if this is included too).
It looks like you would have to add a lot of parts to finish it (it would have to be less than $200 for the rest for it to be worth it, really - ATI sells a full kit for $439). Let me know what your plan is for the rest of the bot and if you are able to get a good price for it, will be difficult though.

And reprapdiscount offers a complete, mostly assembled kit for $500. You're going to have some trouble matching these kinds of prices without a lot of effort.

Hi,
I haven't checked the rest of the parts or the cost to anodised the alum parts. The idea is it must be below US$350 - US$400 (inclusive of shipping) to be viable for all the parts to complete the printer. The higher the vol, the lower the cost. As my location is not US, I'm would like to avoid stepper motors or parts that you can source easily to keep the weight and postage cost down. But I should be able to find those highlighted in blue locally / bulk order from China - just need to find out the cost :)

Not doing this for business but as a hobby to get my own 3D printer... :)

I think you are going to struggle to get the parts together for sub-500 - but wish you the best of luck. FWIW, the RepRapDiscount kits rock.

Hi,
I gotten quotes for 10 sets of the Ord Bot parts :

1. All Laser Cut parts for the OrdBot in 3mm thick 6061 and 5052 Alum including the botfoot.
2. Colour anodising of the parts

The cost is about US$132 (exclude international shipping - weight is around 1.3kg)

Are there any interest in this ?

thanks
