SD8825 orientation and Azteeg X3

Postby albill » Sun Apr 07, 2013 10:18 pm

Hi all,

I looked for documentation on reprap.org and other places but couldn't find any. I have an Azteeg X3 with the SD8825 stepper drivers that come with it (if you pay). I can't figure out the orientation and there are two choices. I looked at pictures folks have posted here of their builds and I think it is oriented with the screw on the bottom but then I thought I'd seen it with it on top. I know this will fry the steppers if you have it reverse. Which way is it?

I assume that this is wrong (with it on top):

Can someone confirm?

Here ya go - Roy 's changed the layout of his drivers between the two versions. Easiest way its to check the pinout. Which brings up another point - I have this awesome X3, but no decent documentation to speak of - does ANYONE have a schematic?!?!?!

Bonus points for a schematic for the expansion boards.

Ah, so I had it oriented correctly!

Well, other than the fact that I said I looked on the reprap and panucatt sites and they didn't have the information, yeah.

Of course, then I look at the Bukobot assembly page for the X3, and they have the steppers in the opposite direction. WTH?

Though the text is oriented the same so maybe they just have the screw for tuning the pots in a different location?

That's Roy's original driver board - you'll notice you don't have the pad in the middle on yours either. If you've got the SD8825's, you want them oriented the way they are in my photo.

Here are the links to the wiring diagram and stepper driver info:

http://files.panucatt.com/datasheets/x3_wiring_diagram.pdf

http://files.panucatt.com/datasheets/sd82_user_guide.pdf

POTS tuner on bottom... but double check your driver chips before powering up.

The best way to check isn't by the pots, since those can be different for different drivers. Always put the GND pin to the outside (top left) of the Azteeg. If you look at the pictures in this thread you can see they are all correct by the location of the GND pins.

Thanks everyone. I've got Marlin compiled and uploaded and have gotten my X to move back and forth.
