Buildlog 2.x Kits

Postby mrandy » Mon Nov 18, 2013 1:00 pm

I just confirmed with Bart that he has no plans to produce further parts kits for the 2.x laser. Which leaves us, as far as I can tell, without any supplier for those parts.

I'm producing the custom parts for my own laser now, and if that goes well, I'm wondering if there is any interest in making additional kits available for sale. I'd make a decision in a couple of weeks, around Dec. 1.

What would the kit include? The metal parts? The plastic parts?

Do you have any idea on cost? I know Bart was selling the metal parts for $90. I'm not sure how much the complete builder's kit cost.

Hello,

As far I know Bart was outsourcing the sheet metal parts. I don't think he was making them. Those are really the only parts that are difficult for us DIYers.

If he's really DONE...Think Bart might give up his source? I'm sure they would already have tooling/dies/jigs/etc. setup for his past part runs, just waiting for the next order to come in.

Thoughts? Bart?

Yes, if those parts come from a normal fabrication shop, they will surely have a minimum quantity. No one'sy-two'sys. Somebody will have to purchase the lot then distribute, like Bart has done.

I took the skin files to a local sheet metal shop, had them cut. Then took them to be powder-coated. Most shop's will do small jobs, if you ask, it's just another order to them.

The parts are not terribly difficult. They can be CNC or laser cut. A couple require bends, which is done on a metal brake. All fairly simple stuff if the equipment is available.

If you are not dead set on having Laser 2.X I have ten sets of the custom plastic parts for Laser 1.0.

I am thinking about doing a run of the aluminum parts. If there is enough interest I will more than happily sell kits.
