With the DSP, you don't need any controller. The DSP is the controller.
What you need is:
1. The DSP
2. Two drives (for x and y)
3. Optional third drive (for z)
Everything can be wired directly from the DSP to the drives and the laser ps.
IF you want to us the new pololu driver on Bart's new interface board, you can simply wire up a parallel cable connector from the DSP outputs and just plug it in. In fact, Bart included the PWM input through the parallel cable specifically because I asked for it so we could make the DSP plug and play, just like the retina and going direct from Mach.
The controller you were looking at COULD work, but you will be disappointed in it. It is not set up for the speeds that tha DSP will they to fire at it.
As one with (probably) the most experience with the DSP, I strongly recommend you use individual drives or use the new interface board with pololu drives.
