2.X laser DSP settings

Does anybody know the exact " Pulse Unit " settings for the 2.x ?
I have Barts 200 step motors and I am using Light object drivers set to 8 micro steps http://www.lightobject.com/2-Phase-45A- ... -P453.aspx

I also presume the "Max-Power" box should have the power of the tube being used ?

EDIT I have sorted the "Pulse Unit" settings, it is just the "Max-Power" I am unsure of.
is it the power of the tube in watts or is it the maximum milliamps to feed the tube :?

Max power is the Max Power (%) that you want to let the user (you) set when doing a job. In other words, if you have it set to 90% then even if you enter 100% for a job, it will drop back to 90% when it actually runs. You can use this as a limit when your laser ps is too strong for the tube you have. In my case, I never want to run over 60%, as that produces the max current for my 40watt tube. So if I set it to 60%, that will always be the max allowed power sent to the laser PS.

This is a safety feature in that it prevents you from overdriving your tube. Or you can think of it as a technique for ensuring a longer life for your tube. Running at near 100% will use up your tube faster.

I have the new 4 axis board that Bart made, and I am trying to figure out what I should set the stepping to.. then I am also figure out what I need to set in the DSP setup to match the stepping.
What did you end up setting in the DSP for 8 micro steps?

If you are set up for 1000 steps per inch ie you have Barts new steppers and 20 tooth pulleys
Then the pulse units for 1/8 should be 25.4 and position 3 on the interface.
Draw yourself a 50mm square in PHcad , download it to the DSP then click (I think it is clip box)
And you should get a 50mm square. If the square is 25mm try position 2 on the interface.

Bart's Z axis upgrade produces 9600 steps per inch using no micro steps.
The pulse units for the DSP is 2.64583333333333 ( thanks to naPS ;) )
I have not tested this yet I won't get out to my shop until tomorrow night at the earliest

I have had a chance to try the Z-axis now and using the correct pulse units (2.64583333333333) my stepper won't move it just whimpers.
I think I will have to lose the 2.4:1 reduction to get this to work for me.
For most people this won't be a problem but I want to be able to use the autofocus function with the DSP this will require accurate movement.

It's possible you just have the current set too high on the Z driver. When it overheats it cuts on/off very quickly and can look like that. This is especially likely if you can power off for several minutes and then when you power on the Z works ok briefly.

Mine came set for 2A and at 2A they need a (not included) heatsink. At 1A they will run without a heatsink indefinitely.

I have set the current on the Z axis correctly , and it works fine with the pulse units set for 1000 steps per inch.
It just does not seem to handle 9600 steps per inch.
This would be ok if all I needed to do was jog the table up and down but I would like to use the autofocus function and that requires more accurate movement.
