Lasertube falling apart

Postby a542002 » Wed Jan 25, 2012 9:55 pm

hi all
did anybody ever see a lasertube falling apart?
I was in the middle of a engraving job as the laser power did go down
I checked the mirrors and focal lens but they was ok then I looked at the tube
and had a surprise the front glas part of the tube was fallenoff ( see pictur)
I got no idea how it could happen except bad part the tube has only about
250 hour light engraving and about 1 hour cutting on it
now because I have no idea ether what the function of this part is because it is open
and nothing in it, I was thinking maybe the tube works even without, but there comes the next surprise
the beam now comes out like a circle not a point no idea how this comes
maybe somebody can shad a bit light in this
greetings
walt

The front and back "glass parts" are there to liquid cool the lens and the mirror. Did you not have them included in your water circulation loop? They are critical to keeping the laser cool and I don't really know what to say about the beam being circular. I would buy some thermal epoxy and attempt to reattach the glass and then make sure your water circulates through it. But it sounds like your laser might be permanently damaged, the glass lens/mirror could have melted/overheated which has most likely ruined the laser.

A picture of the tubes entering the lens cooling loop then back into the laser tube body.

This happened to mine as well. Nobody seems to have a clue on the possibility of repairing or if the tube is repairable.
The possible cause to mine was the weight of the coolant tubing creating stress to the circular glass part and when it got some heat in the factory epoxy failed to do what it was designed to do. I have reattached mine and will be giving it a test run tonight to see if all is well. Have a new tube on it's way just in case.
Major overhaul on cooling system is in the design phase...which seems to be a mystery on the forum as well...hmmm....

I found that a good quality two part epoxy will repair this issue, however, I stress that it does not take much epoxy. In my efforts to repair mine, the epoxy seeped slightly onto the lens and has limited the lasers power.

Again...it DOES NOT TAKE MUCH epoxy to reattach the cooling loop back to the lens.
