Belt pulley tooth count, What does it effect?

Postby Seshan » Tue Feb 07, 2012 8:19 am

I'm a little confused with what the tooth count/size effects? Like slower/faster, more torque/less torque. Can anyone help? Thanks.

The belt pitch (teeth per inch) is used to calculate your resolution (steps/in). In reality the belt pitch and pulley pitch sort of null each other out and it comes down to diameter. A pulley with half the pitch can still get the same steps/in if it has the same pitch diameter. Some belts have higher strength. Some belts have higher accuracy. Stock drive (www.sdp-si.com) has some good reference material.

I wrote a little tool to help on simple setups.
