Drilling the acrylic window

Postby J45on » Tue Jul 26, 2011 5:50 pm

Does anybody have any tips on how to drill the acrylic window for the 2.x ?
I have a nice piece of 3mm thick cut to size with a flame polished edge and I don't want to ruin it drilling the holes

Just use a drill bit meant for plastic. You can usually recognize them by the pointed 60 degree tip. If you google you can also find instructions for regrinding regular bits to work better on plastic.

I also made my own window but I wimped out on flame polishing. Probably someday the rough edge will bug me and I'll take it off and give it a go.

I drilled a bunch of .5 and .25 cast acrylic when I built my first cnc router. Go slow on the downward pressure and have something under the acrylic so when the bit breaks through it does not chip the acrylic. I just used a metal cutting bit of the correct size I had in the toolbox.

I'd be glad to laser cut some holes and send them to you. ;-)
