I found the bare and white aluminum egg crate here in Edmonton, AB. They sell a standard ceiling tile sized sheet of it for $21. They will cut it to size for free. I bought the bare (brushed aluminum not shiny) from them. I am wondering now if I should have bought the white? Has anyone experimented with both? What works better?

thanks,
Brendin

The white is actually a paint, I believe, and therefore it burns. Bare should be better. Please share your source, if they have an online presence.

I found the spec sheet on the aluminum egg crate Martech sells. http://store.drivingstrategicsales.com/ ... -al500.pdf They do reference powder coated white finish in the 1/2" framed egg crate specs. Which would seem to match the description of what these guys sell http://www.cuttinggrid.com/lazergrids.shtml

The say "Exclusive powder coated surface reduces bounce back and makes clean-up even easier. Better Cutting, Less Clean-up, Less Waste" I'll prbably end up buying some white to have on hand as spares and I'll compare.

I own the white eggcrate from Lazercutting grid and I wish I wouldn't have paid as much as I did (over $100). Mine came coated in white, which I am pretty sure that it is powder coated and not just painted, but it flairs up when hit with the laser beams so what ever it is I do not recommend it. Also it looks worse and worse the more I cut (I included a photo of what it looks like after a year of moderate use). The flair up is annoying because it has the chance of igniting the acrylic vapor.

I might even buy a plain aluminum (or clear anodized) in a couple months because it would look better than what I have.

thanks for posting that... I don't think I will bother with the white.
