Pronterface

For those of you who who are looking for host sodtware, I am convinced that this is the best option. Pronterface has long been a simple program, but now it has enough features I feel good recommending it.
Pronterface is written in python, so you should have that installed to run the latest versions, but periodically pre-compiled versions for mac and windows are released.

I've been running the latest version as a host for the ord bot, and it has never crashed or hung.
