Imho, it will work if linear speed of left and right belt part are equal in magnitude, and the system is absolutely symmetric, but because belt will vibrate, wheels are not equal, belt itself could be not equal in different parts of it...etc, you will have small ripple per X if you are doing pure move per Z and vice versa.
