Good to know using fans for 3D Printer cooling

I saw the link before it was deleted and thought that there was actually some relevant information there. I don't have a printer, yet, but I imagine one could print a grill to fit over any CPU fan to increase it's efficiency, and/or direct the airflow more to where it's needed. Anyway, I thought it was interesting.

@greenvandan

I've sent you a Message.

I just started printing a fan grill for this purpose.

thingiverse has lots of fan ducts if you want directed cooling

@Enraged

I tested several versions of ducted cooling!
The problem is that you lose efficiency because of the fan airflow characteristic.
Try it yourself.

I 'll test it next week.

simple solution: add a second fan. there is a nice design for a dual ducted fan, or it would be fairly simple to design one. being that a 40mm fan only costs a few dollars, I wouldn't worry about efficiency too much.

@Ennraged

Are you using fans for cooling?

I'm searching for a solution expecially for cooling small prints (diameter 5mm, height 12mm).
I understand that this is almost impossible only with cooling, Slicer-settings and optimization is also required.
But an efficient cooling system will help.

right now I just have a 50mm fan blowing on everything: the print and the hot end, no ducting. It's wired to my Azteeg and configured in Slic3r. I also have a 40mm fan blowing on the Pololu drivers that is always on when power is on.

I finally got around to calibrating my setup, so I'll be printing a duct soon. Even the one fan blowing on everything seems to have helped the PLA printing.
