best home switches

Postby tmccafferty » Sun Apr 28, 2013 12:52 pm

I am scratch building a large format printer and am at the point of selecting the home switches. It seems like the solid state Optical type would be more repeatable. Has anyone verified this?

They are both good enough for 3D printing. Mechanical limit switches can be easier to mount, wire and make adjustment thingys in my opinion.

What mechanical switches do you guys use? I've been buying these:

Expensive, but much higher quality than the zippy ones you find at RadioShack. They're also sealed ... more important for my mill, but nice nonetheless.

I'm using these, they have been working just fine despite being the cheapest I could find. Getting the Z just right has been fidgety, I'm not sure if that is from the end stop switch or the fidgety set-screw actuator.
