Laser Bean Strange Behavior Laser 2.X

Postby soehler » Sun Sep 09, 2012 9:21 pm

Hi

I would like to know if anyone experienced this behaviour :

I use Bart´s 3 axis controller board with pololus with my laser2.x.
I was lasering with mach 3 for like 10 min when sudenly stops bean stops.
Turned off everything and then turned back on again, then used the test button to fire the laser, it fired 3 times then stopped, then I moved thre head carriage 5 cm and the bean started t work again for more three times, I noticed the a power decreases between the shots.
To make it start work again I just moved the carriage again by hand ,,, weird !!!
What can it be ? Defective pololu ? Defective board ? It seems to "reset" something when I move the carriage (and the motors retrofeed the board ????). Pololus overheat protection ?

Help is appreciated ! :-)

Thanks

Sounds like a bad power supply if hitting the test button is not working.

You did set the current for the tube, didnt you?

The first thing I can think of is loose connection in the safety loop.

I had the same type of weird issues with mach 3 kind of. The laser beam would move on me after a while. I think mach 3 is over-driving the laser because I noticed the cut depth with mach 3 was much much deeper than comparable cut depth with my retina engrave usb card set to supposedly 18-20mA. Get a mechanical amp/voltage meter installed asap and see. I'm working on getting my digital amp meter installed finally myself so i can confirm what the power levels are.
