Squaring up gantry??? Please share how you did it.

Postby dirktheeng » Sun Aug 21, 2011 7:26 pm

All,

I'm looking for a good way to get the cart travel square to the gantry rails. I am curious to know how others have done it. I think it is fairly important to get this as square as possible before doing an alignment. I have a couple ideas, but I am not sure how well they will work. Please share how you did it.

Thanks,

I just did it by eye. Between the kerf of the beam and the flex in the belts it seems close enough and I haven't had any surprises.

I used a large carpenters square. I made one side of the Y motor tight and the other just firm so I could twist on and it would stay. Once it was square I tightened it down.

Later I drew large squares with the beam. I measured corner to corner to see if it was square. I looked really good, so I did not mess with it.
