Noob here looking to order the carriage setup

Postby blaqlabel » Fri Jun 08, 2012 4:47 pm

Hello!

I was referred here by Zach Kaplan because after receiving the Makers Slide, I realized that I needed to the carriage piece to complete a camera dolly setup I first saw on the Inventables site.

I am looking to create the same type of setup as shown here:

From the recommended uses:
https://www.inventables.com/technologies/makerslide

Sans the camera specific pieces of course. I just need help to make sure I don't order it, wait on delivery, and then find out that I need a washer, bolt, or some other piece(s) to make it all work. I realize there are some pieces needed (that might not be available) to fit to the camera rig, however, I would be looking for all the pieces to make the carriage slide on the slide.

Anyone have a parts list that would help me buy the pieces on the Inventables (or otherwise I guess) site? Thanks!

History of that design:

During the Kickstarter of Makerslide a lot of camera people bought the material for use in camera sliders. I had never known how many people were into that. When people started getting the material they kept asking where the camera slider was. I never intended to sell a complete kit for that, but to prove how simple one could be, I designed the simplest one I could think of. I made about a dozen of them and they all sold pretty quickly.

I am not suggesting the design is the perfect solution, but it worked for me. It is completely open source and can be fabricated from basic materials either by CNC router, laser cutter or 3D printer. The wiki has all the details.

Then they asked where the controller was. I knocked out an Arduino version in a couple hours and that code is also free and open source here.

Again...that is only a proof of concept starting point and not meant to be a turn key product.

Thanks Bart!

I was thinking of keeping it simple and just doing to a carriage piece on the slider without the machine. More of a "by hand" type setup. I just wanted to make sure I got all the right basic pieces. Here is what I have in my shopping cart:

Dual Bearing V-Wheel x4 $11.40
Standard Wheel Carriage Plate x1 $8.00
Eccentric Spacer x4 $8.00
Precision Shim Washer x4 $0.80
Ball Bearings x4 $4.00
Nylon Natural Color Spacer x4 $8.00

Will this work? Thanks again!

That is fine. You only need (2) eccentric spacers.
