Minimum Stroke Length When Engraving

Is there a setting to stop the dsp from using small strokes when engraving a thin section of an image.

Not sure what you mean. If you mean that an image that is three inches wide but has a section that is only 1/4 inch wide and nothing to either side and you want it to continue to swing the full 3 inches, then the answer is no. In the interest of time savings, it looks at the total width of all black dots on a single scan line and engraves them. Then it looks at the next scan line. Moving the full 3 inches in order to engrave a 1/4 inch segment would be a time killer.

If you mean something else, explain further please.

Just like what you decribed, except instead of the full 3" on the thin section maybe just a buffer of 1/2" either side to stop it vibrating back and forward on a small section.

If you reduce your acceleration enough, it will force it to go further on each side to accelerate and decelerate. I don't think that would be worth it, as it will add a lot of extra travel to every scan line, regardless of the size. Again, it is a real time killer.

Change your image file so there's an extra pixel to burn outside the finished piece. Then the DSP will travel all the way over to that extra pixel.

That will work - needs to be a pixel on every scan line - so basically draw a line outside the markable area of your material. On larger pieces (6" etc) that is going to REALLY slow down your production.

I am assuming that he wants to reduce the rapid reversing of the laser head when only engraving a few pixels.

It is very rapid but I see it as a good test of the mechanics. If your system holds up to it, you got it all right. If you are loosing steps or the whole system is vibrating, you need to work on it. (imho)
