Getting from ORDbot kit --> Usable 3d Printer

OK, so I have a Hadron reserved. This will be my first bot, so I have the "chicken - egg" problem, where I will need to source everything necessary for the complete unit externally from Bart's kit.

Electronics, software, not so hard to figure out, lot's of options.

Two big areas of doubt for me are the extruder / hot end assembly and the bed / mount.

I see lots of discussion about the extruder / hot end, but little about the bed. I'm thinking a wades derivative driving a budaschnozzle it going to be the (pardon the pun) hot setup

On the topic of the bed, I have already procured a prusa MK1 heated bed. What I'm not sure of is how it should be mounted to the y carriage, and squared, calibrated, etc to the X-Y-Z... obviously, this has been figured out, is it documented somewhere I haven't found?

Two ways to level the bed are a follow.
1) move the nozzle to each corner of the bed, and adjust the height of that corner (with a,screw) until the nozzle just touches a piece of paper. Repeat for all 4 corners.
2) this one is my favorite. Get a cheap dial indicator, and attach it to the carriage. sweep it over the bed and adjust the corners until it is level.

How does #2 work? Would a regular level (or multi-way level) work just as well? (on the bed)

Sure. A dial indicator has a plunger and a dial. Usually, one graduation of the dial corresponds to the plunger moving 0.001". The goal it to sweep it over the bed and watch the needle. Wherever it deflects, adjust the bed so that it goes back to zero. When the needle deflects no more that 0.005" in any given point, the bed is level enough. This works better than a level because a level is absolute. If the rest of the printer is not level and the bed is, then the bed is not level relative to the printer. A dial indicator is relative, so you know that you will always get flat prints.

Good point about a bubble level...

These dial indicators, can you share a link to one? I Google'd it and all I found was a whole bunch of what look like air pressure gauges??

Oh, I get it now... "attach it to the carriage" - I re-read your post, sorry. Thanks for the clarification. I really like this idea (dial indicator) the best too.
