ORD Bot Production Run Status

Postby bdring » Wed Mar 07, 2012 2:12 pm

I get a several email a day requesting status.

Things I don't have yet

Quantum Motors (Due in about 10 days)
Hadron Motors (Due in about 15-20 days)
Note: I am paying over $1200 for shipping on the motors to expedite.

V Wheels (I have enough for about half the units, the rest are on order...this could end up being the long pole for some people. I am trying to pay some expediting fees). 3/17/12 Update: Enough expedited wheels should be shipped by 3/23/12 to fill the orders.

Belt clamps (I am doing these myself..1/2 way done)
Cutting Lead Screws (I am doing these myself...20% complete)

Makerslide, (production complete) I have to take a day off and drive to Michigan to get the parts.

Please don't ask for specific parts in advance. I will sell individual parts later.

If I get everything but the motors and you want to get the kit without motors I may consider that when the time comes. There will be no discount of the kit though. I paid for the motors already. If you want the motors later you will have to pay for them plus shipping. Consider it an "impatience tax' or donation to buildlog.net.

The kits will take many days to send out. I plan on taking a few days off work, but if you are at the bottom of the queue, expect to wait up to two weeks for your shipment.

Snazzy! I like it. Is that a gloss anodized finish?

The shaft couplers are quite glossy. The sheet metal is more of a light brushed finish.

Hi Bdring

We have the same thought.
My part just arrived two days ago, too.

I'd love to hear about how you guys are selecting machine shops for this kind of thing. Whenever I debate buying more tools I wonder if it would be more cost effective to just send out the jobs.

I don't know how Bart does it, but I have had good luck using the RFQ section at CNCzone. Ended up finding a top notch machine shop nearby, as well as a few smaller one man shops: http://www.cnczone.com/forums/rfq_request_quote/

I've used mfg.com before to put out RFQs for small jobs. Some of the stuff I've gotten (mostly from China) has been outstanding, other jobs have taken a few iterations to get right. It's an interesting experience to try, if nothing else. There's an amazing amount of manufacturing capacity out there.

The parts look great, Bart. Thanks for putting up with our impatience, try to take it as a complement ;)
