I have used MFG.com, but most of the time I ask around for local shops. You often get too many lame responses with MFG.com.

The price does not scale the same way for every vendor. The local people with the auto sheet feeding dual turret punch/laser machines will often beat the Chinese prices in the 500-2000 piece range, but the proto prices are very high. Once you get to ocean freight quantities and lead times, China wins.

The black parts are Chinese (light weight) and the blue parts are local (heavier).

BTW: The official blue is now FED-STD-595 #25095

I have all the sheet metal now. The brushed blue aluminum looks good and it feels stiffer than the acrylic.

I am still waiting on all motors and the pre-cut MakeSlide extrusions. The extrusions actually are cut and ready, but I need to schedule the delivery.

Bart,

How are those aluminum plates made? Is that laser, waterjet, turret punch?

A combo turret / laser machine. I think a lot of what you see is laser. Some of the small holes are probably turret.

The finish comes from a "timesaver" machine, which is basically a wide wet belt sander.

Just to clarify: The carriage plate for the Hadron is not countersunk like in the original 3D render, correct? (If the DXF on the BOM is correct, 1/8" is way too thin to do it)

There are no countersinks or counterbores in the parts. The bed is mounted on spacers. That is the way to go with a heated bed or it takes too long to heat up.

The material is all 1/8" 6061-T6 Aluminum.

There was a note at the bottom of the newsletter stating;

The start of the delivery of the ORD Bots is very close. The motors are
still the gating item, but rumour has it that they may be shipping to me
this week.

Does this mean that you have all the V wheels for the kits that you needed now? Any comments on how many people are paid in full and how you are going to handle people who haven't paid yet vs. people that have and lower in the queue?

I have wheels for a lot of ORD Bots, but not all. More are coming soon.

I will send out a payment reminder when the Bots are ready to ship. I will ship off the queue from top to bottom of people who paid. When I am at the bottom, if there are extra Bots I will give one last chance to pay, then I may sell those off. Please don't ask for them now. Really....please don't ask for them now.

I am doing a clean room build of a Quantum this week. That means I build from a kit and cannot retrieve anything from outside the room. This will test the kit contents. I will take some pictures and update the Wiki.

I have done some last minute cleanup of the BOM over the past week. If you are building one on your own from scratch, you need to check for updates frequently.

Thanks Bart. If you could document which tools you have in the clean room (or better, which you used) that would be very helpful. Is anyone else planning to do a full assembly/writeup on the kit, or is that on you? :)
