Gantry (x axis) belt lenght (error on wiki?)

Postby pyarza » Sat May 19, 2012 5:34 pm

I have seen that on the WIKI it says that the Hadron belt length for the gantry (x axis) is supossed to be 34 inches (86.36 cm):

http://www.buildlog.net/wiki/doku.php?id=ord:gantryassy#attach_clamp_to_belt

There is also a forum post that states that the length is 34 inches:

http://www.buildlog.net/forum/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1195

I have just cut a belt that length: 34 inches, and when I'm placing the belt between the motor pulley and the idler assy I have too much length of belt. To me, it seems that the total length of the belt should be something like 31 inches.

I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, and I don't want to cut the belt before being sure those numbers are ok.

Can anyone verify those numbers are correct?

Thank you!!!

I believe that the length 34" is just a safety margin. Install it with that length then make sure everything is tight and working properly then you can trim down your belt. I usually like to leave a 1/2" to 1" of extra on each side of the tensioners just in case I need to make adjustments later.

awesomenesser:

Thanks for your info. But anyhow I thought that it would be nice to have some "closer" to real values; or some explanation about the needed belt lengths are actually 2 to 3 inches less (in case this is true).

At least it would be useful to the newbies like me.
