I've found a 4x20 LCD lying around in my parts drawers, soldered a resistor (in place of a contrast pot) and some wiring and just slapped it on the electronics plate like this:
No controls of any sorts, just the LCD.
I'm finding it useful like that too, primarily for the timer, SD status and temperatures.
I've modified the LCD output in Marlin a bit to get rid of the info i don't need (speed) and add the info i do need (fan speed).
Re-arranged the data layout a little too.
